Sengoku Jidai 11-units DLC Guide

I was asked by Azure to start writing guides for you guys to read and study :) So here we go!

And what better time to start this than these exiciting times of a new Sengoku Jidai 11-units DLC. As a first post I give you the first impressions of the new units!

General info:

In avatar-mode they are like heroes, so you can only use one in your army. So using these units is all about veterancy. And only future upgrading will tell how these units actually behave in battle.

In classic you can use multiple units, but all the units are special units for certain factions. And looking at this I can see how they fit the bill and are made for classic battles. I mean when you think about it, for example:
Date uses light armored no-dachis so they get "Bulletproof" samurais to give them something against matchlocks and bows.

Mori gets "pirates" because they are a naval clan.

Takeda gets Fire cav because they are a superior cavalry clan.

Oda gets ashigarus with long spears.

and so on, some of them make sense and some are to just make classic battles more interesting and fun because now you have special units for each faction.

Spear units:

1. Long Yari ashigaru 500

Abilities - Yari wall

They are ashigaru so they have big unit size and they have loooooooong spears, they are like yari ashigaru in spear wall against cavalry in normal formation. And the yari wall is frikking amazing on these units, even in one line formation cav cant get though and will get annihilated in seconds.

2. Bulletproof Samurai 1100

Abilities - Rapid advance

These units are not bulletproofed! They are like naginata samurai with the same 9 armor, and will get annihilated like naginatas. They took 4 volleys from vetted matchlock monks before routing. Only real difference to naginatas is the rapid advance.

Update: CA staff has claimed that they take half the damage from bullets compared to other units. Further testing is needed.

3. Marahton monks 1250

Abilites - Warcry and Second wind.

Huge stamina, 16 morale, otherwise quite the same stats as naginata monks. Not too impressed with that extra second wind for 350!! extra cost.

Sword units:

4. Wako raiders 500

Quite like katana samurai, but with kisho training, so you can deploy them like ninjas! they also hide like ninjas when walking. Shame you can only have 1 of these :( would have been a great ambush unit. And they cost less than katana samurai while being almost as good, so using them instead of katana samurais is a good idea.

Bow units:

5. Bandits 550

Like bow ashigaru but they can hide like ninjas and be deployed like ninjas. The same idea as the wako raiders.

6. Daikyu Samurai 1100

Abilities - Fire Arrows

Like bow samurai but with 175 default range. In our initial test they beat a vanilla bow monk while being left with 28/60. They got +10 men compared to bow monks but less bow stats. And they are a bit more (100) expensive than vanilla bow monks. These might be handy in the future when vetted.

Matchlocks:

7. Heavy Gunners 1100

These are like hand cannons rather than matchlocks. 125 default range. Devastating when fired at cav! And when fired at inf from close range, at 125 range you can hardly do damage against infantry. The high price is a problem though.

Cavalry:

8. Mounted Gunners 800

This unit seem really nice! Price is not too high and they can do some serious damage against cav and at close range against inf. Basically matchlocks on horse. Default range 100 but can be upped to 125. I can see myself cheesing away with this unit and chasing enemy cav :) Start vetting!

9. Fire cavalry 1000
Weird unit, a little better stats than yari cavalry. Basically it's a vetted yari cavalry unit. But when looking at the stats you do get more than 150koku worth upgrades when compared to yari cav. But then again why upgrade yari cavalry.

Artillery:

10. Hand mortars 1900
Was totally worthless against enemy cav and inf, when fired at an immobile cavalry unit, 0 units killed. Fires at a huge arc! Probably meant for siege battles to fire behind walls.

More to follow in the future! I would also like to write guides on things you guys out there are wondering, so in the comments you can ask me to write guides on certain topics :)

Cheerz!
